PASEO ART GALLERY
About Paseo
Paseo Art Gallery was born out of John Valenzuela’s weakness to say no to friends who would often cajole him to sell art works he has collected since the mid-1990s. In 2005, he opened up his once residential condominium turned stock room at the Paseo Parkview Towers along Valero St., Salcedo Village, Makati City to friends and guests who would request private viewings. Apprehensive that the residents would take note of the bustling commercial activity, John opted for a retail space at Glorietta IV Ayala Center Makati in 2008.
Like a jigsaw puzzle forming perfectly, it was in that same opening month of the gallery that the ultimate abstractionist Romulo Olazo agreed for Paseo to handle his major show in Ayala Museum. It was an honor for this relatively novice gallery to be accorded such opportunity. Moreso, the Ayala Museum decided to make Azool, the Olazo show their Director’s Choice for 2008.
Almost immediately after the highly successful Olazo show, SM Malls agreed for Paseo to takeover the space of the prestigious Finale Art Gallery at the 4th level of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Paseo boldly accepted the challenge to fill up the void created by Finale’s departure which was the premier purveyor of avant garde contemporary artists and at the same time Filipino masterpieces in the Megamall art walk.
To date Paseo has showcased the works of University of the Philippines Fine Arts undergraduates alternating with that of the masters like Olazo and Roberto Chabet. It is equally proud to offer the widest selection of artworks by renowned sculptor and TOYM awardee Michael Cacnio. His latest series exquisitely combining his traditional brass medium with colorful hand blown glass balloons is exclusively available at Paseo.
Ultimately Paseo offers itself as a showcase for emerging artists and at the same time espouses to expand awareness of its art beyond the regular collectors to include the mall frequenting public.
